Landscape Architecture
Landscape architecture involves planning, designing, and managing outdoor spaces to achieve environmental, habitat, and aesthetic outcomes. Midwest Wetland Improvement landscape architects work on projects involving both natural and landscape environments, considering aspects such as land use, environmental conservation, stormwater management, and planned activities.
Landscape Design
Midwest Wetland Improvements uses landscape architectural design to solve stormwater problems, adding enhancements to benefit sites and create new spaces. This includes utilizing trees, flora, topography, water, site furnishings, lighting, and other natural resources to create and manage outdoor spaces in rural, suburban, and urban areas. Leverage our expertise to renew and revitalize your outdoor spaces for enhanced public or private use.
Tree Inventory and Survey
We comprehensively assess the trees within a specific area, collecting data on individual tree species, size, condition, health, and location. These surveys provide valuable information that can be used for urban forest management, future planning, risk assessment, and ecological studies. They also help identify tree maintenance needs and develop tree preservation and planting strategies.
Tree Preservation Plans
Midwest Wetland Improvements develops comprehensive strategies to protect and conserve existing trees during the construction of development projects. These plans typically include surveying all trees on the property, assessing their health and significance, and taking specific measures to quantify replacement tree quantities required for permit approvals of construction or other landscape modifications.
Landscape Plans
Our landscape architects develop landscape plans to design and guide the construction of outdoor spaces. These plans typically include detailed layouts, planting designs, hardscape elements, irrigation, and any other features related to outdoor places t. They consider factors such as functionality, aesthetics, sustainability, and environmental impact and can incorporate elements to address specific needs like stormwater management, biodiversity enhancement, and recreational areas. Our team prepares landscape plans for various projects, including ordinance-required solar array screening, street tree and landscape plantings development, and transportation roadway landscapes. We also prepare native revegetation plans for stream and wetland restorations, shoreline stabilizations, and private residential projects.
Natural Resource Management Plans
These are comprehensive plans for sustainably managing natural resources like land, water, wildlife, and forests. They include ecological evaluations and identifying potential improvement areas so land managers can develop sustainable strategies for using, conserving, and restoring natural resources to ensure long-term viability.
Green Infrastructure Design
Green infrastructure is a specific design approach to stormwater management that integrates stormwater as a design feature of a project. We use this strategic approach to mimic natural processes to manage stormwater, reduce flooding, and improve water quality while providing additional benefits such as wildlife habitat, recreational spaces, and improved aesthetic appeal. Some of our favorite landscape architecture design projects are designing green infrastructure projects in community parks and schools to solve water quantity, quality, or flooding issues. In addition, we create new uses in these designed spaces, including outdoor classrooms, natural play areas, shaded courtyards, and city parks.
Residential and Community Park Design
Midwest Wetland Improvements designs outdoor spaces catering to residents’ recreational and leisure needs within a neighborhood or community. These designs often include a variety of amenities such as playgrounds, walking trails, sports fields, picnic areas, and green spaces that provide a safe and aesthetically pleasing environment that encourages social interaction, physical activity, and relaxation for individuals and families within the community.
Master Planning
Landscape architecture master planning is the process of developing comprehensive and illustrated plans to map and prioritize projects related to projects like site redevelopment, park improvements, or the design of a new facility. We complete master plans for private residences, commercial expansions, county parks, and educational facilities. Our plans unify the vision for the property and implement projects in multiple phases, ensuring efficient completion of each component that minimizes rework between phases.
Environmental Assessment Worksheets (EAW)
These documents provide the location, size, and potential environmental impacts of a proposed construction project to assess the potential environmental effects of the project. These are submitted to the state Environmental Quality Board (EQB) for its review and comment to determine whether the project has the potential for significant environmental effects. Public review and comment periods are also included to collect comprehensive input and assessment of the project. Midwest Wetland Improvement’s approach to preparing an EAW is to provide a neutral and accurate reporting of available information and facts. Our experts collect and thoroughly review existing data/information and identify any gaps, consult other experts in fields as needed, open and maintain clear lines of communication with regularly scheduled communications, and keep a thorough record of activities that have happened. We also practice sensitive data security so as not to divulge any private information to the general public, such as threatened and endangered species and/or cultural resource locations. This method helps us include the most current and relevant information for quality assurance, maintain organization and internal communication with stakeholders throughout the process, comply with sensitive data security, and efficiently meet timeline goals.
Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP)
Midwest Wetland Improvements creates this comprehensive document that outlines a site-specific strategy to minimize the potential for stormwater pollution on construction and landscape design sites. Under the Clean Water Act’s National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES), sites that disturb more than one acre of land are required to protect water quality by reducing pollutants in stormwater runoff from construction sites.
